Wisdom from Former Newbies Wiki

Page history last edited by Alana Verminski 9 years ago

About this Wiki:

The Wisdom from Former Newbies Wiki was first presented at the 2015 ER&L Conference by Alana Verminski, Eugenia Beh, & Stephanie Spratt. Our goal in creating this wiki was to provide a collaborative resource for new (and not-so-new) electronic resources librarians to find and share information about the profession and electronic resources librarianship.

Goals and Scope:

We were inspired by the work of Jill Emery and Graham Stone in developing TERMS and encourage visitors to contribute their own favorite resource or go-to place for finding information about how to better manage electronic resources. We've all experienced the challenges and frustrations of being a new electronic resources librarian and the major learning curve that often accompanies the role.

Wiki Creators:

Alana Verminski (alana.verminski@uvm.edu) is the collection development librarian at the Bailey/Howe Library of the University of Vermont Libraries. Alana manages the selection and assessment of library resources. Prior to joining UVM, she managed e-resources at St. Mary's College of Maryland Library.

Stephanie Spratt (sspratt@uccs.edu) is the Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian at the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (UCCS). She manages the Kraemer Family Library's electronic resources post-acquisition. The systems she uses include III's Sierra ILS, Serials Solutions, EBSCOhost, YBP's GOBI, and Ingeniux web content management software. Her upcoming projects involving electronic resources include switching from VPN to EZproxy, and adding a discovery layer. She recently completed a print serials weeding project which involved an extensive overlap study of print and electronic journal holdings. In addition to managing electronic resources, she is the library liaison to the UCCS College of Education, providing library instruction, collection development, and reference services.

Eugenia Beh (ebeh@mit.edu) is the electronic resources librarian at the MIT Libraries, where she manages the acquisition and cataloging of e-books and e-book packages and the Libraries' discovery service, EDS. She was a member of the NASIG Core Competencies Task Force for Electronic Resources Librarians and currently serves as a Member-at-Large on the NASIG Executive Board.
